Erastus J.O. Mwencha

Erastus, a renowned economist and administrator, served as the Deputy Chairperson of the Af-rican Union Commission (AUC), overseeing administration and finance and developing strate-gic plans. During his term, he facilitated institutional cooperation with the World Bank. He im-plemented the Joint Support Office for the Secretariat of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), African Development Bank (AfDB), and AUC. Before that, he served as Secretary General of COMESA, where he led the establishment of the COMESA Free Trade Area and represented the region in international trade negotiations with the EU and AGOA.

The recognition of ACBF as the African Union’s Specialized Agency for Capacity Development launches the beginning of a new era for capacity building by ACBF, which will require an appropriate level of political commitment and financial support from all stakeholders.
