The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) has organized a knowledge sharing meeting between the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and the African Community of Practice on Managing for Development Results (AfCoP-MfDR) which will be held from the 31st of May to the 2nd of June in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Various nations and regional institutions have, over the years, increased their commitment to apply principles of managing for development results in the implementation of public policies. For Africa to become a global growth hub in the next years, it is crucial to take advantage of the potential that regional integration present; it will be equally important that it builds institutional capacities and instills a result culture in all development areas. This is pivotal in promoting Africa’s transformation through stability and competitive economies.
In a bid to support this agenda, the African Community of Practice on Managing for Development Results (AfCoP-MfDR) has partnered with the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and its member states in order to fast track the implementation of regional policies through the application of the MfDR principles and tools in the management of public affairs. The MfDR spans over all spheres of public affairs management to improve the delivery of results. In line with this, the WAEMU AfCoP Regional Platform was launched in April 2013.
The meeting in Burkina Faso will draw representation from the 8 countries involved in the WAEMU AfCoP Regional Platform namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo. Participants will include delegates from public institutions involved in the targeted regional policies, the WAEMU Commission, the African Development Bank, the private sector, the AfCoP Youth Network and the AfCoP Gender Network.
The aim of the meeting is to promote a results culture in the Union (WAEMU) so as to advance the implementation of regional policies. A targeted strategy will be developed to improve knowledge sharing on the WAEMU online regional platform. Result-oriented work plans with timelines, key deliverables, roles and responsibilities of parties will also be developed during this period.
