ACBF attends the NEPAD Head of State and Government Summit

Addis Ababa
Ethiopia
30 Jan, 2015

The 32nd Summit of New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) opened on 29th January in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), in which the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) was present with a delegation headed by Prof. Emmanuel Nnadozie, the Executive Secretary.

The Summit included in its agenda the progress made in the application of the conclusions of Dakar Financing Summit (DFS) on Africa’s regional infrastructure held in June 2014, NEPAD’s support to Agenda 2063, NEPAD’s support to the African Union’s (AU) response to the fight against Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

ACBF took part in the mapping of the capacity requirements of the African Regional Economic Commission along with the AUC, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) last year.  “We conducted an institutional capacity development assessment in all eight AU Regional Economic Communities (RECs) under Capacity Development support programme and designed 2015 – 2025 RECs Capacity Development Implementation Plan to support the realization of the 2nddecade of NEPAD, the post 2015 Agenda and the first 10 years of Agenda 2063,” Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NEPAD highlighted.

The President of the Steering Committee of NEPAD Heads of State and Government, Mr. Macky Sall, President of Senegal, said that "in the face of difficulties, it is necessary to set priorities which are key factors for sustainable development and inclusive growth in Africa."

Mr. Sall noted that the stake is to "strengthen" the political and socio-economic capacity of African countries by completing infrastructure projects and transform African agriculture for "better productivity" to achieving food security.

The NEPAD summit precedes the 24th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

The recognition of ACBF as the African Union’s Specialized Agency for Capacity Development launches the beginning of a new era for capacity building by ACBF, which will require an appropriate level of political commitment and financial support from all stakeholders.

Lamin Momodou

The remarkable achievements ACBF has registered over the past 26 years is not by accident in our opinion. They have come through hard work, dedication, commitment, purposeful leadership, support from the member countries as well as productive partnership building.

Mr. Lamin Momodou MANNEH, Director, UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa
Goodall Gondwe

Africa needs ACBF as much, probably more now, than at the time it was created in 1991.

Hon. Goodall Gondwe, former Chair of the ACBF Board of Governors and Minister of Finance – Malawi
Ken Ofori Atta

Ghana’s partnership with ACBF is a tremendous blessing for us and therefore the opportunity for Ghana to host the 26th ACBF Board of Governors Meeting is something that we treasure.
